Where Have I Been...? Busy.

Wow... It has been so long since I posted. Not that I haven't had any thoughts or nothing to say... I've been busy.

I stopped to think how busy I have been since the last time I've posted and I realize that my schedule stinks. Not that it stinks, and not that I really schedule... But I realize that I am constantly on the go... From the time I get at 5 am ... and I get up again at 5:30, :) ... I am moving, I am working, or I am ... and this is usually goes until about 10pm or later.

I realize that I have very little margin for things that REALLY matter... Like spending time with God, spending quality time with my family, walking, and cleaning the house.

Yes cleaning the house.

Cleaning the house and helping my wife is her love language, and I love my wife.

So How do I create margin... How do I step away from important things to create margin for other important things?

How do I fine margin in a society where the pedal is constantly pinned to the floor, or throttle wide open for the bikers?

I would love to hear what you guys are doing to beat the busy and add margin.

Am I alone in this?

LOL ...I just googled Marginseekers.com.... it does not exist... this ain't gonna be easy...

What's Love Got To Do With It?

Some folks think love is an overused word and it has has lost its meaning behind it...

It's Just A Word or I love you is just a phrase.

The word Love is mentioned over 500 times in the bible... (must be an important word)

I personally feel that you can't say love enough. You can't tell enough people that you love them, and you should tell everyone you love them, everyday. I personally feel we don't say I Love You enough. I know I don't say it enough to the people I love the most...

You know who you are. I Love You

But I think that what may cheapen love for some is that they say love or I love you and they leave it right there.

Love is and has to remain a verb! We have to put action behind the word love.

Over 2000 years later 1 single act of placing action behind is the foundation and catalyst of Christianity. God told us throughout the bible that he loves us... and in the the most awesome, frightening, saddest way he showed us.

John 3:16

I  love my children with all my heart... I can't imagine the anguish...  let's just leave it at that...

I guess the idea is... tell people you love them... often... Show them that you love them even more frequently than that.

Just a random thought...

What do you think about Love?

What do Diet Coke and Mentos have to do with God?

So I was driving to work this morning, and this random thought popped up in my head. I was thinking to myself, I said self... Gods love is kinda like mentos and diet coke. We(diet coke) are there, we are effervescent in our own way. if some one gets close to us we my tickle their nose with a bubble or two, but for the most part we stay pretty self contained.

Then comes God and his amazing love (mentos) and he just rocks our world. We bubble over with joy and excitement, and he keeps pouring into us until we just explode! We didn't care who got hit by His love, we are just putting it out there and praying that what was just witnessed will become known.

Matthew 28:19

John 4:7

Yeah it may have a bit of a stretch but think about when you first became a Christian and you always wanted to tell somebody about your Jesus and your church. Are you still doing it, or are you waiting for God to drop a few mentos?

Lost By Dana Leach .... YOU HAVE ENTERED THE UNCOMFORTABLE ZONE!!!

After much debate (within my own head) I decided to post this. I think it is important that we continually push ourselves outside of our comfort zones. This was very uncomfortable for me... I'm just saying... I've also decided that I love this song... but that it would sound alot better if someone else was singing it.... and playing guitar...  You have entered the uncomfortable zone!

Ok I have to get ready for church.... See Ya Soon...

I think this version of the video will show up on smart phones... if not here's a link

Sloppy Wet Kiss...

From the first time i heard Mark McMillan's "How He Loves" I was hooked. It created deeper thought of how God cares for us and how he absolutely loves us. He loves us so much  See: John3:16

He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

This song testifies to the love and unequivocal passion that God feels for us and the breath snatching love that we feel for him.... once we realize He is here.

I personally love the imagery and the pouring out of this song, and feel it's one of the more powerful worship songs we could ever sing.

Which brings me to the question... Why do so many think that the line "so when heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss" is so distracting...

We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
So Heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…

Some will claim that this line we completely disconnect them from worship. Others well... just read this...
HubbaRider14: "anything that makes you open your eyes during worship shouldn't be there. its about connecting with God. and if i said sloppy wet kiss in the middle of worship, i'd be like what the heck......."

First off... Do we have to close our eyes to worship? Will God not hear us or receive our offering of praise and worship? Just asking.

As Christians, I feel we allow ourselves to be distracted far to easily. If you are true connected to God during worship, prayer, or meditation there should be very little that you should allow to pull you out. Trust me, I am in the same boat.

I feel that the imagery/intent of this line cannot exemplify more of how we have engaged with the Father and the Heavens. After all we are complete wrecks... No Perfect People attend your church... no matter what they tell you...

So I wondered what Mr. Mcmillan had to say about this line and it's intent. Also what he may have to say about "sloppy wet kiss" being changed to "unforeseen kiss"... This is what he said...

“HEAVEN meets EARTH like a sloppy wet kiss”

The idea behind the lyric is that the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of earth converge in a way that is both beautiful and awkwardly messy. Think about the birth of a child, or even the death of Jesus himself. These miracles are both incredibly beautiful and incredibly sloppy ("gory" may be more realistic, but “Heaven meets earth like a gory mess” didn’t seem to have the same ring). Why does the church have such a problem with things being sloppy? Do we really think we’re fooling anyone on Sunday morning, especially God? Are we going to offend him? I mean, he’s seen us naked in the shower all week and knows our worst thoughts, and still thinks we’re awesome. What if we took all the energy we spent faking and used that energy to enjoy the Lord instead? That could be revolutionary!

Final thoughts:

I applaud David for changing the line to serve his people, and at the same time I boo the machinery that would cause him to have to do so.

WOW!!!!

go HERE
If you wanna read the entire post.

I am not trying to sway you one way or the other about the lyrics or the theology behind them...  People worship and believe differently...

But let nothing distract you from worshiping our Creator with everything you've got.

To Play or Not To Play

Have you every walked past a store or restaurant and heard a familiar song? You may have never patronized either establishment, but you where drawn to look or at least sing along. It's amazing how we can be drawn by that familiarity.

What if you where walking by a church and you heard one of your favorite songs? Would you be intrigued? Would you at least sing along? Would you be drawn to see what's going on?

Let me just start by saying, that in no way shape or form do I believe that secular music can ever replace  heart felt, God inspired praise and worship music. I do believe that secular music can have a place in church.

Not Everyone Knows Christian Music

I remember back when I first started going to church, I didn't know the songs they were singing. I didn't know the difference from songs of praise, worship, or a hymn. I felt out of place. People were raising their hands some were clapping some where crying... I was like... what?

I remember getting excited when I sang part of a song that i had heard on some late night worship CD. Then they started singing the verses and I was lost again.

It's hard for the unchurched to fit in with well churched people when it comes to worshiping through music... It's hard for them to fit in anyway. We play songs they don't know and pray prayers they don't understand, and we preach in a way that they won't comprehend.

So what if we played a song that was familiar to the churched and unchurched alike; we know that churched folk don't only listen to christian music. Ok, we must be smart about what we choose and I would run it through a few filters just to make sure the secular songs are not blasphemes or offensive.

Here are a few that we have chosen over the past ...

My Hero _ Foo Fighters
Lost - Cold Play
Come Alive - Foo Fighters
Can't Buy Me Love - Beatles
Love Stinks -J Giles Band
Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2

Most of the songs are lighthearted and fun, some are not. But they are relative to the sermon and they are not offensive, to God or anyone else.

Where do you stand?
